Dr. Farzana Mitra is a Doctor of Medicine qualified in specialties of anesthetics and in family medicine. Her special interest includes persistent pain medicine , management and research.
She trained and graduated in medicine in 1973 and proceeded to specialize in anesthetics , working in this field for the next 18 years. At this stage she felt a need for change as she missed interacting with patients. She re- qualified as a specialist in family medicine in 2004.
However her interest had always been treating patients suffering long term pain. She understood that to help them efficiently she needed some extra tools, and traveled to Vienna, Austria to earn a diploma in Acupuncture. She also holds a diploma in counseling from New Zealand.
Since 2006, Dr. Mitra treats only patients with persistent pain. She has just completed a tenure in Australia as Director of the Pain Clinic. She continues research in pain management and publishes articles on the same, hoping this will lead to more understanding of pain and how best to help such patients achieve a better quality of life.
Dr. Mitra loves to read and travel, and enjoys cooking for family and friends.
